Fully prepared but canceled: Chitral left waiting for Prime Minister’s visit

CHITRAL: Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s scheduled one-day visit to Chitral on October 22 was abruptly postponed, spreading disappointment among the public and workers of the Pakistan Muslim League (N).

According to sources, all arrangements for the Prime Minister’s visit had been finalized. The district administration, security agencies, and political leadership were fully active, while the PML-N had made extensive preparations for a public reception and a special ceremony. During his visit, the Prime Minister was expected to address a gathering in Chitral city and inaugurate the Danish School at Syedabad.

However, the visit was suddenly called off, with no official reason provided. Following the announcement, the excitement and activity that had filled Chitral city quickly subsided.

Large numbers of people from remote areas of Upper and Lower Chitral had already arrived in the city to attend the Prime Minister’s events.

Locals expressed deep disappointment over the cancellation, particularly at a time when the visit was seen as politically significant due to the expected by-election for Chitral’s National Assembly seat.

Party insiders said the Prime Minister was expected to announce several development projects for Chitral. The abrupt postponement, they added, has disheartened both the public and party workers.

Chitral is currently facing numerous challenges, with poor road conditions being the most pressing issue among others.

Public representatives and community members have urged the PML-N leadership to reschedule the Prime Minister’s visit soon so that steps can be taken toward resolving the district’s longstanding problems.
