ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has announced the promotion of Lieutenant General Amir Raza, Chief of General Staff of the Pakistan Army, to the rank of four-star General and his appointment as Commander National Strategic Command.
According to a brief statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Shehbaz Sharif congratulated General Amir Raza on his promotion and on assuming his new responsibilities.
The official release noted that the Prime Minister expressed his best wishes to General Amir Raza for the discharge of this critical duty.
It may be recalled that following the passage of the 27th Constitutional Amendment last year, the position of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) was abolished under the Army Act and replaced with the newly created role of Commander National Strategic Command.
Under the amended Army Act, the Prime Minister may appoint a full General of the Pakistan Army to this position for a three-year tenure upon the recommendation of the Chief of Defence Forces.
Belonging to the Armoured Corps, General Amir Raza has served in numerous key command, staff, and instructional positions across the Pakistan Army.
Prior to his elevation to the four-star rank, General Amir Raza served as the Chief of General Staff (CGS) at General Headquarters (GHQ).
His distinguished appointments also include serving as Director General Weapons & Equipment (DG W&E), Chairman Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT), and General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Infantry Division in Kharian.
General Raza is a graduate of the Command and Staff College, Quetta, and the National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad. He also holds a master’s degree from the United Kingdom.
He took command of Heavy Industries Taxila in April 2020 and was subsequently promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General in October 2022.
Over the course of his military career, General Amir Raza has been decorated with the Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military) and the Sitara-i-Basalat.
