Pakistan condemns U.S. strikes on Iran, warns of regional escalation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Office strongly condemned the United States’ airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities on Sunday, warning that the action could spark a wider conflict in the Middle East. The government called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and urged all parties to pursue dialogue in accordance with international law.

The condemnation came hours after U.S. forces targeted three sites in Iran, reportedly in coordination with Israel’s ongoing campaign against Tehran’s nuclear infrastructure. U.S. President Donald Trump, addressing the strikes, cautioned Iran against retaliation and vowed that Washington would respond with “precision, speed, and skill” to any counterattacks.

In a formal statement, the Foreign Office expressed grave concern over the deteriorating situation, stating: “Pakistan condemns the U.S. attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities which follow a series of attacks by Israel. We are gravely concerned at the possible further escalation of tensions in the region.”

The statement also criticized the legality of the strikes, asserting that the U.S. actions violated international norms and that Iran retains the right to self-defense under the United Nations Charter.

“The unprecedented escalation of tension and violence, owing to ongoing aggression against Iran, is deeply disturbing,” the statement added. “Any further escalation of tensions will have severely damaging implications for the region and beyond.”

Emphasizing the importance of civilian protection, Pakistan urged all parties to adhere to international humanitarian law and avoid further loss of life and destruction.

“Recourse to dialogue and diplomacy, in line with the principles and purposes of the UN Charter, remains the only viable pathway to resolve the crises in the region,” the statement concluded.
