US congressional delegation lauds Pakistan armed forces in high-level security talks

RAWALPINDI: A visiting US Congressional delegation led by Congressman Jack Bergman on Sunday commended the Pakistan Armed Forces for their vital role in counterterrorism and praised the country’s resilience and strategic significance during a series of high-level engagements with both civil and military leadership.

The delegation—which also included Congressmen Thomas Souzzi and Jonathan Jackson—held separate meetings with Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. Discussions centered on regional security, defence cooperation, and broader bilateral ties.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the meeting with Gen Munir focused on mutual interests, particularly in regional stability and defence collaboration. Both sides reaffirmed the importance of sustained engagement grounded in mutual respect and shared strategic objectives. The talks also led to the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) for joint training initiatives in the field of information technology.

The US lawmakers acknowledged Pakistan’s enduring efforts in fostering regional peace and stability, applauding the military’s pivotal contributions in the fight against terrorism. They further expressed a strong commitment to enhancing cooperation in areas such as security, trade, investment, and economic development, while underscoring respect for Pakistan’s sovereignty.

General Munir thanked the delegation for their visit and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening and diversifying its longstanding partnership with the United States in a mutually respectful and beneficial manner.
