Militant ring leader killed as security forces strike in Dera Ismail Khan

RAWALPINDI: In a significant counterterrorism success, security forces conducted a high-stakes intelligence-based operation during the night of April 6/7 in the Takwara area of Dera Ismail Khan District, targeting the reported presence of militants affiliated with a proscribed group.

According to an official statement, the operation led to an intense exchange of fire, during which nine militants were neutralized. Among the slain was a high-value target, Shireen, identified as the ring leader of a notorious militant network. A cache of weapons and ammunition was also recovered from the scene.

Shireen was one of the most wanted figures on the radar of law enforcement agencies due to his involvement in a series of terrorist acts. He was specifically implicated in the targeted killing of numerous civilians and was held responsible for the martyrdom of Captain Hasnain Akhtar, who embraced shahadat on March 20, 2025.

Security officials hailed the operation as a critical step in avenging recent acts of terror and reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating extremist threats from the region.

“Today’s successful operation has brought the mastermind behind several heinous acts to justice,” the statement added.

A follow-up sanitization operation is currently underway to ensure the area is cleared of any remaining militant presence. Security forces emphasized their unwavering resolve to eliminate terrorism and restore lasting peace across the country.
