Workshop on mental health & disabilities organized by Handicap International in Chitral

CHITRAL: Handicap International, an NGO working on disabilities and mental health, organized a one day awareness workshop on “Disability inclusive response in pandemic for health and education institutions” in Chitral university which was attended by students, faculty members and community representatives. Talking to the participants Vice Chancellor of University of Chitral (UoC) Dr Zahir Shah said that awareness was vital to overcome the rising cases of mental health issues.

The VC appreciated the holding of the workshop saying such initiatives would help create public awareness leading to behavioral changes in society.

Speaking on the occasion, Handicap Foundation project director Muhammad Diyan said the role of persons with disabilities cannot be ignored in the development of society.

He said special emphasis was needed to be taken on people affected by disability and mental health issues to cope with health crises such as the Covid-19 pandemic.

Experts highlighted mental health issues in Chitral through their presentation and suggested measures to overcome them.
