CHITRAL: CARE International Pakistan has provided emergency relief supplies to flood-affected families in Chitral through the Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP). The relief items were distributed among affected families in coordination with the district administration.
More than 190 people have reportedly lost their lives and over 500 others have been injured across the country during the ongoing monsoon season due to heavy rains and flooding. With further heavy rainfall forecast in different parts of Pakistan in the coming days, relief and emergency response activities have been intensified in the affected areas.
According to reports from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), recent monsoon rains and floods have caused significant loss of life and property in various parts of the country. In response to the situation, CARE International Pakistan has launched emergency flood relief operations to support families affected by the disaster and help meet their immediate needs.
CARE International Pakistan is providing affected families with shelter kits, food kits, hygiene kits, kitchen sets and other non-food items to help them cope with the immediate challenges following the floods.
CARE International Pakistan Country Director Adil Shiraz said that ensuring timely access to basic necessities for flood-affected communities remains the organisation’s immediate priority.
“Our immediate priority is to ensure that flood-affected communities have access to the basic necessities they need to remain safe and live with dignity,” he said.
In Chitral, families affected by the recent floods are facing urgent challenges related to shelter, food, household necessities and hygiene. As part of its emergency response, CARE International Pakistan has distributed shelter kits, food kits, hygiene kits, kitchen sets and other non-food items among more than 157 affected households.
The relief items were distributed through Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) in close coordination with the district administration, local authorities, community representatives and other humanitarian organisations. The coordinated approach was aimed at ensuring that assistance reached affected families in a timely, transparent and accountable manner.
To ensure transparency and accountability in the distribution process, CARE International Pakistan MEAL Coordinator Sajjad Ahmed supervised the relief distribution activities.
According to CARE International Pakistan, the organisation remains committed to working with local partners and communities to provide life-saving assistance to people affected by emergencies, support recovery efforts and protect the dignity and well-being of affected families.
The organisation said that its ongoing relief activities are aimed not only at addressing the immediate needs of flood-affected families but also at supporting their recovery and helping them return to normal life after the disaster.
