PESHAWAR: Anti-Taliban fighters have carried out attacks on several targets in at least two districts of Afghanistan’s eastern province of Nuristan, claiming to have inflicted heavy casualties on Taliban security forces.
According to reports, clashes have taken place between fighters of the anti-Taliban resistance group Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) and Taliban forces at several locations in Kamdesh and Barg-e Matal districts of Nuristan, which borders Chitral. The resistance group claimed that several Taliban fighters were killed during an attack on the town of Gawardeh in Kamdesh district.
Similarly, reports have emerged of clashes between resistance fighters and Taliban security forces in Narri district of Kunar province.
Sources affiliated with the Afghanistan Freedom Front claimed that its forces had inflicted heavy losses on the Taliban in several areas of Nuristan and Kunar and had taken control of several villages.
According to the sources, at least 37 Taliban fighters were killed and several others wounded, while a significant quantity of weapons and other military equipment was reportedly seized by AFF commandos.
Meanwhile, Taliban authorities claimed that the attackers who targeted Gawardesh had been repelled and that several members of the attacking group had also been arrested. They said the situation was under control.
The mountainous districts of Nuristan share a border with Chitral.
